The Egremont Crab Fair – one of England’s weirder events – gets its name from crab apples rather than the marine variety. It started back in the 13th century when the Lord of the Manor gave away crab apples to the populace. In fact, to this day, the Parade of the Apple Cart, where apples are thrown into the crowds on the Main Street, is part of the fair. There are a host of other non-mechanized, traditional events – greasy pole climbing, a pipe smoking contests, a talent show, Cumberland wrestling, a hounds trail....

10 The Panzer 68 Built in Switzerland in the 1960s, the Panzer 68 was a domestic Swiss tank designed to give Switzerland a modern tank that could stand up to the latest Soviet armored vehicles. Nearly 400 of the tanks were delivered. They were used until 2003. In theory, the Panzer 68 was a formidable design with a new computerized fire control system that allowed accurate gunfire and good maneuverability. In practice, however, there were some hilarious problems....

A very eerie, surreal film along the lines of David Lynch. This is a challenging insight into a bleak, unstable world that exists within the realm of imagination, but aside from its absolute insanity, it’s very well done. This is a short moral-based film that was made in Australia, and won the Melbourne Film Award. It carries some religious overtones, but is still thought-provoking. This is a beautiful little film that touches on concepts of mortality....

Fascinating Fact: In Tibet, a common drink is butter tea – it is made from yak butter, salt, and tea. The average Tibetan can drink 50 – 60 cups of this tea in any one day! It is made by drying Chinese tea in the road for several days (to let it acquire a strong flavor). The tea is then boiled for up to half a day and churned in bamboo churns to which salt, a pinch of soda, and rancid butter have been added....

10 “Kathy” With The Tattoos A rodeo rolled into the town of Fort Smith, Arkansas, in June 1983. One of the workers called herself “Kathy Johnson” and soon made friends in the small community. Kathy met a single mother of three whose husband was in jail and moved in to help the young woman out. When friends came over one night, Kathy offered to babysit four-month-old Matthew. In the morning, Matthew was missing from his crib, and Kathy was gone along with the family’s car....

Greek fire was an incendiary weapon used by the Byzantine Empire. The Byzantines typically used it in naval battles to great effect as it could continue burning even on water. 10 Strange Isolation In Mexico, skulls from three areas were analyzed, dating back 500 to 800 years. The Sonora and Tlanepantla heads shared similarities but not those from Michoacan. The measurements were so different that they resembled a group that had developed in isolation for thousands of years. Yet no unbreachable landscape separated the regions. Michoacan was also just 300 kilometers (186 mi) away from Tlanepantla. For some reason, the Michoacan group did not interbreed with their neighbors and developed a distinctive skull shape....

Apparently, getting off a sinking ship is more complicated than you’d think! Bizarre Fact: A Swedish company will pulverize your body and bury it in a cornstarch urn, providing a completely bio-degradable burial. Shortly after your death (within one and a half weeks) your corpse is frozen to minus 18 degrees celcius (64.4 F) – causing the body to become very brittle. It is then subjected to vibrations that render you to a frozen powder. This powder is then placed in a vacuum tube which extracts all the water – resulting in a dry powder....
